- July 1. Crossed Willoughby Run about 3.30 P. M. relieving Heth's line and advancing with left flank on Chambersburg Pike took part in the struggle until it ended. When the Union forces made their final stand on Seminary Ridge the Brigade charged and aided in dislodging them but suffered heavy losses. Gen. A. M. Scales was wounded and all the field officers but one were killed or wounded.
- July 2. In position near here with skirmishers out in front and on flank.
- July 3. In Longstreet's assault the Brigade supported the right wing of Pettigrew's Division. With few officers to lead them the men advanced in good order through a storm of shot and shell and when the front line neared the Union works they pushed forward to aid it in the final struggle and were among the last to retire.
- July 4. After night withdrew and began the march to Hagerstown.

- July 2. Late in the evening ten of the guns were placed in position at different points ready for service next day. The Howitzers were kept in the rear as no place was found from which they could be used with advantage.
- July 3. The ten guns were actively engaged.
- July 4. In the evening about dusk began the march to Hagerstown.

Poague's Brigade / Nr. 139

- July 2. The howitzers in the lunettes nearby belonged to the batteries of Poague's Battalion. One to Ward's. Two to Brooke's. One to Wyatt's. One to Graham's. But on this day they were detached and kept under shelter from the fire of the Union artillery which they could not return by reason of their short range.
- July 3. In the morning the lunettes were constructed and the howitzers placed in them to meet a possible advance of the Union forces but as this did not occur they took no active part in the battle.
- July 4. At dusk they withdrew from the field with their battalion and began the march to Hagerstown.

July 3. At 7 A. M. they opened on the Union position but were soon ordered to cease firing as they drew the concentrated fire of several batteries. They afterward took part in all the operations of the artillery during the day including the cannonade preceding Longstreet's assault. The Howitzer remained in the rear and was not engaged in the battle but held in readiness to resist any advance of the Union forces.
July 4. In the evening about dusk began the march to Hagerstown.

- July 4. In the evening about dusk began the march to Hagerstown.

- July 1. The Whitworths were in position to the right of the Chambersburg Pike near the position of Pegram's Battalion. Opened fire slowly and effectively shelling the woods occupied by the Union troops to the right of the town.

- July 2. The Battery in position on Seminary Ridge south of the Hagerstown Road exposed to a heavy fire from the Union sharpshooters and artillery.
- July 3. The Whitworth guns were moved to this position and fired with great effect. The 3 Inch Rifles remaining on Seminary Ridge south of the Hagerstown Road.
- July 4. Withdrew at evening to Marsh Creek on theFairfield Road.
